Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Planning: Develop and implement strategic plans for fluids management across drilling projects, considering wellbore conditions, formation characteristics, and operational objectives.
  • Team Leadership: Manage and provide leadership to a team of fluids supervisors, engineers, and technicians. Coordinate activities, assign responsibilities, and ensure adherence to safety and operational standards.
  • Fluids Program Management: Design and optimize drilling fluids programs, including selection of fluids, additives, and treatment methods. Monitor fluid properties, performance metrics, and consumption rates to enhance drilling efficiency and well integrity.
  • Vendor and Contractor Management: Collaborate with vendors and service providers to procure fluids, equipment, and technical support. Evaluate contractor performance and negotiate contracts to ensure cost-efficiency and service quality.
  • Quality Assurance and Control: Implement rigorous quality control measures to maintain optimal fluid properties, cleanliness, and environmental compliance. Conduct audits and inspections to verify adherence to standards and regulations.
  • Risk Management: Identify potential risks associated with fluids management and implement proactive measures to mitigate operational, safety, and environmental hazards. Develop contingency plans for fluid-related emergencies.
  • Technical Expertise: Provide technical guidance and support to resolve complex fluids-related challenges during drilling and completion operations. Collaborate with engineering and geoscience teams to optimize wellbore stability and drilling performance.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate records of fluids-related activities, including performance data, consumption rates, cost analysis, and regulatory compliance. Prepare comprehensive reports for management and regulatory agencies as required.
  • Training and Development: Foster a culture of continuous learning and professional development within the fluids team. Conduct training sessions on fluids management techniques, safety protocols, and operational best practices.

Requirements:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Petroleum Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related field. Advanced degree or certifications (e.g., IWCF Well Control, Mud School) may be advantageous.
  • Experience: Extensive experience in drilling fluids management or related roles within the oil and gas industry, with progressive leadership responsibilities.
  • Leadership Skills: Strong leadership and interpersonal skills to effectively manage and motivate a diverse team in a dynamic and challenging environment.
  • Technical Proficiency: In-depth knowledge of drilling fluids systems, additives, and technologies. Familiarity with mud logging, wellbore stability analysis, and downhole conditions monitoring.
  • Safety and Environmental Compliance: Thorough understanding of HSE regulations, industry standards, and best practices relevant to fluids management and waste disposal.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, to collaborate effectively with internal teams, contractors, and senior management.
  • Problem-Solving Ability: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to diagnose complex fluids-related issues and implement effective solutions.
  • Adaptability: Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple projects simultaneously. Willingness to travel to drilling sites, including offshore and remote locations.
