About the Role
 

We are seeking Principal to join our Planning and Technical Team in US


In this role, you will lead and manage technical projects to support closure planning and remediation of BHP’s non-operating mining legacy sites in AZ.

Your key responsibilities as a Principal Hydrogeologist Geochemist will include:


•    Scope and manage studies and provide technical subject matter expert advice to projects on risks associated with groundwater, surface water and/or soil contamination and mining closure/reclamation.  
•    Site hydrogeology, hydrology, geochemistry and geology data gap analysis, site investigation and characterization to assess the site’s current conditions and to develop or update site conceptual models and water balance models to underpin the remediation and closure strategy. 
•    Collaboratively engage across the organisation to identify, scope and project manage technical studies to characterize risks and frame opportunities to address them.  Evaluate technical aspects and business needs to evaluate options for remedy selection.   
•    Ensuring that the planning and execution of work is appropriate to the risk and liabilities for each site’s closure plan and is consistent with BHP’s values, water stewardship, and climate change adaption and resilience initiatives.
•    Using BHP’s Risk Management Framework, support completion of Risk Assessments, own and implement critical controls associated with material risks, and support progression of risk remediation plans and activities.
•    Developing Request for Proposals and Request for Qualifications for contractors.
•    Provide technical review of proposals, projects, and written deliverables in relation to site hydrogeology and geochemistry. 
•    Complete routine first line assurance (field audit/leadership) on field work associated with technical investigations (e.g. drilling/sampling) and mine closure activities. This will require regular travel to sites at which you are responsible for.
 

About You
 

To be successful in this role, you'll need to be able to demonstrate:


•    Technical undergraduate degree in Hydrogeology, Engineering (Civil/Environmental/Chemical), Geology, Geochemistry or related field
•    Working knowledge of hydrogeology and geochemistry disciplines
•    Project Management experience
•    Minimum of 10 years’ experience in leading and managing mining, environmental remediation/ reclamation, or related activities.  
•    Prior experience collaborating with multiple stakeholders across an organisation for continuous improvement and managing risks.  
•    Knowledge, background and familiarity with types of technical and environmental challenges associated with mine closure and/or remediation.
•    Technical skills relating to assessment and remediation of soil, surface water, and groundwater.
•    Strong communication skills (verbal and written) with demonstrated ability to prepare technical reports and communicate technical risks across the business to various stakeholders.
